A necessary aknowlegement
The great and provocative mind of Gregory Bateson has perplexed, puzzled, profoundly engaged me since I read his epistemology--Mind and Nature; a Necessary Unity. Bateson's interests were multidisciplinary, ranging from psychiatry to genetics to anthropology and many other areas. He thought and wrote expertly and creatively in each but none became a specialty which would comfortably define him. His book Steps to an Ecology of Mind draws together more than two dozen essays and challenges the reader to locate underlying structures among them -- the ecologies that are present for those who read carefully. For me the idea of an ecology of mind which is able to fathom patterns among disparate and multifaceted phenomena and disciplines is a goal I will at best only partially achieve. Nevertheless my own curiosity drives me to go both wide and deep-- and this site, established in homage to Gregory Bateson, is my venue for the attempt.

Process and context: each a constituent of the other.
Inevitably, action takes place within context, and informs the evolution of that context, shaping the action that can take place.
It's a symbiosis, I suppose. This idea fits well with the knowledge resource development model that I realize I haven't sent to you yet.
Mind & body as reflective of the same relationship?
Obvious, surely everybody knows this. Yet, we have a seemingly inexhaustible capacity for denying the reality. I, for one, am pretty good at that.
